William Wainwright was born in 1872 in Manchester, England. He was the fifth child born to James and Ann Maria Wainwright. On the 1891 census we find him working as a Lath Maker. William married Mary Ellen Gorst in 1894 and they had 2 children: William and George. In both the 1901 and 1911 census we find the family living with Mary Ellen's parents.There is some evidence to suggest that William immigrated to Australia during the migration years of the Wainwright's and may have possibly died there. On the back of the photograph above are the written words: "Poor Bill."
